    For the characters that have generally kept their original meanings, seeing them morph throughout the ages is a fascinating way to help make them stick. A lot of learning materials for both Japanese and Mandarin take advantage of this. For example, here is a Japanese childrens’ show, 漢字大好き (Kanji Daisuki), that features this concept quite a bit:

    • Thanks for sharing those great links! Learning the evolution of characters can be really helpful, especially with ones that are so clearly pictographs of objects (like 車, 山, 火, etc.). I’ll be sure to add the video to 光.
